Cell phone use while driving
Gene Williams

Hamilton City Councilman Al Mitchell recently expressed the
need for regulation banning use of cell phones while
driving. He mentioned a few close calls he had that were
caused by inattentive drivers talking on cell phones. I have
been amazed at the number of people I have observed who are
talking and not paying attention to their driving.
It is incomprehensible to me how people have developed the
habit of talking on a cell phone wherever they happen to be.
In the streets, in supermarkets, anywhere they happen to be.
There are devices that permit phone conversations without
having the phone in hand. The first couple of times I saw
this I actually thought that I was looking at people who
were talking to themselves.

A Tedious Process

Gene Williams Editor 1-19-2012
I don’t know about anyone else, but I have seen several debates too many in recent months. Republican candidates are ripping each other apart in their efforts to become the standard bearer of the GOP against Barack Obama in the 2012 election. This contest has been going on for far too long, with no end in sight.
Any of these candidates would be a better president than Barack Obama, with the possible exception of Ron Paul, whose bizarre ideas on foreign policy rival Obama’s in the threat they present to the national security. So far the Republican candidates have provided Barack Obama and the Democrats with ammunition he will certainly use against the survivor of this circular firing squad. In spite of the damage Republicans are doing to each other, there are a few factors that may save them from themselves Read Article

The GOP candidates competing to become the standard bearer against Barack Obama in 2012 have been debating each other for months. Frankly, I have come to find the process boring, frustrating and counter productive. I don’t think that I am alone in that view. One by one candidates have seemed to rise to the head of the pack. Invariably, once there, they have been overshadowed by the next front runner. Much has been said about the steady 25% of voters who support Mitt Romney. Most primary GOP voters do not consider him conservative enough to vote for. It is irritating that he
instinctively tells voters what he thinks they want to
hear. Admittedly that is the classic, almost unavoidable
pitfall of all politicians, not just Romney. In order to be
elected it is necessary to convince voters that you are in
harmony with their positions

ISREAL VS PALESTINE
THE FACTS?
Bruce S. King 1-12-2012
Fifty years ago Sgt. Joe Friday had a signature statement on radio's Dragnet program: "Just the facts, Ma'am" Here are the facts.
The Hamas terrorists of the Gaza claim that Israel "has never occupied" Palestine. There has never been a political state or country called Palestine in the Middle East. When Israel was created in 1948, there was no Palestine to occupy!
"Palestine" is roman, not Arabic. Rather it was a name (label) put on the Jewish homeland as an insult and punishment by Rome after Rome conquered Jerusalem and the Jewish Dispersion began. Further more Israel was part of the Turkish Empire, and had been for four hundred years! The Turks are not Arabs and there never was a province in the Turkish Empire called Palestine. No Arabs called themselves Palestinians until 1964, the year the P.L.O. was created (what a coincidence) The Palestine Liberation Organization's charter clearly states it was not to liberate Palestinian Arabs from foreign rule; rather it would destroy the Jewish state! ITHAT’S MY STORY, AND I’M
STICKING TO IT……BUT
I COULD BE WRONG! Dave Hurt

2012 will
be a crucial and interesting year in the future life and
health of America, from the local level on up. It will begin
with school board elections, in which, unfortunately, the
majority of community members take little interest. Big
mistake. Qualified, sound thinking community members must be
encouraged to get involved in providing an outstanding
education for the children of their district
An
extremely qualified and passionate individual has recently
surfaced as a candidate for the Montana Legislature.
Imperative this person be elected from Ravalli county this
November.
There is
a strong hint of a state office candidate being stricken
with the
Herman Cain Syndrome
. Say it isn’t so…………….! Herman was a good man who
brought some fresh thoughts to the debates. Never was going
to be president, but he told it like it was. Unfortunately,
so did some ladies.

Occupation or Opportunity?
Michael Webber 1-11-2012
Editors note:
This is an article that addresses the Occupy Movement from a slightly different perspective than that expressed in an article I wrote recently. I felt it should be published in the First Edition, since all views are welcome.
Many of us feel that the American dream is quickly fading
and the middle class is disappearing. The debt is
increasing and the political leadership is failing.
Jobs are leaving and homes are lost. The investment
bankers are prospering even as they leave the financial
health of our country on life support. Bad behavior is
rewarded and the prudent are left to pick up the pieces and
pay the bills. And the list goes on.
All of this has left us with an uneasy feeling and a sense
of frustration. The anger is beginning to bubble to the
surface across the entire political spectrum and it
manifests itself in diverse ways. The right has given birth
to the Tea Party movement and the left has spawned the
Occupy Wall Street movement. Despite major differences on
many issues, there is surprising agreement on the problems
themselves. In our polarized society, we seldom see such
consensus on the need for making major changes to solve
problems of such widespread concern. It is a rare
opportunity to actually do something significant to achieve
meaningful results.

Some Things To Consider
Bruce S. King
1-12-2012
Freedom-loving Americans want to live in a
society in which the only limits set by government are those
that contribute to our collective safety and protect our
God-given liberties. We are smart enough to choose our
profession, mode of transportation, housing, healthcare,
insurance, right on down to what we want to eat.
Sadly, “big government” is anything but
family friendly! The result being that the politicians have
turned our great bastion of freedom into a burdensome
bloated bureaucracy. Here was President Reagan’s
interpretation; “There is a clear cause and effect here that
is as neat and predictable as the law of physics: as
government expands, liberty contracts”.
Consider these statistics:
-The cost of federal agencies to enforce
over 160,000 pages of rules is more than one trillion
dollars per year (which exceeds all of the federal income
tax collected in 2009.)
